Roseville Tunnel (East and West Portals - Tunnel Lining Started) - October 24, 2023...

Image
ALL ABOARD ! My first stop was the Roseville Road bridge over the Cut-Off for splendid views of the Roseville Tunnel and all the happenings around it.  I then drove to adjacent Johnson Park and was going to check-out Colby Cut from above when I saw many workers atop both sides of the cut near the west portal of the Tunnel.  I then decided to walk directly over the length of the tunnel to the east portal, where I spent some time  shooting pictures of not only the new rock cliff netting, but also of the concrete tunnel-lining operations down below. I then walked back over the tunnel to the top of the west portal, noting workers atop the north side of Colby Cut.  There was a lot of smoke/dust as well as water spray generated by drilling operations within the Colby Cut.  My guess is that these will be for the anchors that will secure the rock cliff netting in place, just as was done on the east portal.  Again, just a guess... --------------------------------------- The first (5) picture

Roseville Tunnel & Colby Cut Rehabilitation - October 11, 2023...

Image
ALL ABOARD ! Nearly two months after my visit to this area in mid August, I saw that drilling and blasting of the west portal of Roseville Tunnel had commenced.  With my new (old) Canon SX30 35x ultra-zoom camera in hand, I was treated to some neat views of the drilling operations. All views are looking east towards Roseville Tunnel. The following views are still looking east, though now from atop the south side of Colby Cut, with Johnson Park to the right. DRILL baby DRILL 😀 I hope you enjoyed the views !
