Lackawanna Cut-Off Rehabilitation (Roseville Tunnel area) - May 1, 2024

Note the trail/access road on the right,
which today is used to bring construction
vehicles to the top of the west portal.

Back in the early 1900s during tunnel
construction, a double track once existed
here and was presumably used to move
blasted rock to higher terrain
for removal from the area

Directly below is a photo from the early 1900s
during tunnel construction of nearly the exact
same view as I shot above.  It's really neat
to be able to compare the views

A drainage ditch has now been dug

Giant banana peels plastered
on the inner walls of the tunnel 😛

I realize that this yellow rubber liner is to
keep water from dripping onto the railbed,
but will this be the final look to the
tunnel lining, or will another material
be placed over (or under, I should say)
this yellow lining ???

This looked really creepy whilst walking
towards it and not knowing what I was seeing
until I got a closer look.  Here the seams on
this half portion are not yet joined.

It looks like there's still over half the
length of the tunnel to line with this
yellow water barrier

And this is where I turned around.
You can see the rolls of Yellow Liner
leaned up against the wall just waiting
to be installed

That liner produced some interesting effects

I like how the beautiful sky is framed
in the yellow-lined tunnel

I emerge from the darkness

Stopping by the tunnel this afternoon to
check on progress was well worth it
